Sant Antoni de Calonge hotels

While there are plenty of holiday apartments in Sant Antoni de Calonge, hotels are thin on the ground. Here we look at your options.

The beach at Sant Antoni de Calonge (Timo Tervo)

With a long stretch of golden sand it’s little wonder that Sant Antoni de Calonge is one of the most popular holiday destinations on the Costa Brava. There are surprisingly few hotels though, almost certainly because so many properties are holiday homes owned by Catalans.

Unlike many towns on the Costa Brava, Sant Antoni is thoroughly modern. The urban sprawl extends all the way to Palamós and is visible for miles. Along the promenade is a wall of apartment blocks up to ten storeys tall.

In fact the town was hardly developed at all until the 18th century due to widespread piracy. There are some houses dating from the 18th and 19th century but most construction dates from the 20th century.

However, among all those apartments are a small number of hotels. Most are right on the promenade or set slightly back from the beach making them ideal for a beach holiday. However, we’ll start with a 5-star hotel half a kilometre inland.

Hotel Mas Falet 1682

***** Carrer d’Asturies, 11

Hotel Mas Falet 1682 is an old farmhouse situated 500 metres or so from the beach. It’s been completely renovated to reach the standards you’d expect from 5-star establishment. However in giving it a makeover they’ve perhaps gone too far in undoing its rustic origins.

Calonge

While Sant Antoni consists mainly of modern apartment buildings, Calonge itself goes back to the medieval period. The towers and walls of the Calonge castle were built in the 13th century.

Hotel Mas 1670

*** Carrer Josep Tarradellas, 27

This old farmhouse dates back to the late 17th century and offers guests rustic charm with stone interiors and vaulted ceilings. It’s been well refurbished and has a snack bar but no restaurant. However, there are several places to eat within easy walking distance. The hotel also has a pool and the castle is just five minutes’ walk.
