World’s best restaurant awarded Golden Anchovy by l’Escala

Girona’s Cellar de Can Roca, which was recognised earlier this year as the world’s best restaurant, was awarded another prize last weekend when it was awarded the Golden Anchovy Award (l’Anxova d’Or) by l’Escala.

The award is made annually during the l’Escala Festa de l’Anxova – the anchovy fair – in recognition of people or institutions that have promoted the anchovy. L’Escala, of course, is famous for the quality of its anchovies, with a number of companies based in the town that preserve the fish in the salt, a traditional preservation method introduced by the ancient Greeks, as well as the more common oil preservation.
