Video surveillance will help combat crime in Platja d’Aro

January 23, 2013 Leave your thoughts

Platja d’Aro is to invest in a video surveillance in an effort to suppress the recent spate of violent robberies in the town, one of which ended in the death of the president of Girona’s employers’ association in November.

The city council has put aside €200,000 for the project, which was initiated last February and will consist of 25 cameras, some of which can read car number plates, to be installed at various access points leading to the town centre and which can automatically alert police to the presence of stolen cars.

What do you think of this; a positive step towards cutting violent crime, or an infringement of civil liberties? Leave a comment and let us know.
