Urgent repair work starts on Estartit promenade

Emergency work to protect a number of seafront properties located in Els Griells in Estartit started last week, undertaken by the Spanish costal service.

The council has called for action for the the work to be undertaken after the promenade was damaged by storms. The current work involves creating a breakwater to protect the properties in case of further storms, but Estartit’s mayor hopes that the promenade will be repaired before the summer and until that happens pedestrian access will remain prohibited.

When I was in my teens a spent a couple of summers in a villa in Els Griells with my parents, and spent an afternoon their last summer to see how it had changed. Although I haven’t seen the damage, it is difficult to imagine how anyone holidaying in the area will be able to access the beach if the promenade remains blocked to pedestrians.
