Six whales spotted off Cap de Creus

June 17, 2013

Six whales were seen off the Cap de Creus on Saturday, easing fears that their population had dwindled in the area.

A project to keep an eye on the whale population in the area sent out a catamaran, which came across a group of three some five miles north of Cap de Creus, the first whales they had seen in more than two months.

Two more whales later approached the boat, with the last of the six trailing the catamaran. One unfortunately showed scars from a propeller, with the group warning that boat owners should learn that in the waters of the Costa Brava they may come across whales and dolphins and need to be careful.
