Report of shark attack closes l’Escala beaches

Five beaches near l’Escala were closed on Tuesday after a man reported being injured by a shark.

The man was swimming off Moll Grec beach in Sant Martí d’Empúries and sustained an injury to his arm, which doctors later dismissed as a false alarm.

The report doesn’t say how bad his injuries are and presumably his arm wasn’t bitten off, but it is difficult to believe that he would be mistaken about something like this, so it must be a deliberate hoax.

The Blue Shark is found in Mediterranean waters but the number of attacks on humans is recorded at just 13 with 4 fatalities.
