Purchase of military land by l’Escala council completed in Madrid

March 27, 2013

The mayor of l’Escala and the defence minister yesterday signed on the dotted line in a deal that saw the Ampurdan town purchase the former military land after two decades of negotiation.

The town has paid €193,437 for around 123,000 square metres of land situated right on the coast between Reills beach and Mateua. The land will not be used for development, but rather form part of the protected area that includes Montgrí and the Medes islands off Estartit.

The mayor says the pine forest on the land will be cleaned up which he hopes will encourage biking and biking.
