Perelada grape harvest excellent for white wines

November 21, 2013 Leave your thoughts

The 2013 grape harvest of the five vineyards used in Perelada wines (DO Empordà) has been up 5% and produced grapes of high quality due to the cool year, resulting in slow maturation of the fruit. The result is that 2013 will be an excellent year fo Perelada whites and very good for red wines.

The year was cool even into summer resulting in the grapes growing better and maturing 15 days later than is typical and for the first time in 22 years no grape harvesting began in August. Instead, Chardonnay began to be harvested on September 2nd, with the last of the Monastrell grapes on October 18th.

The result will be well balanced wines that we will begin to enjoy in a year or two.
