Palamós potential as cruise ship base hindered back lack of support

Palamós has the potential to become a base port for cruises around the Mediterranean, according to the town’s director of tourism, but is hindered in this goal by lack of official support for Palamós to become a Schengen Border.

This is a pre-requisite to allowing overseas tourists from entering Spain from territories outside the Schengen Area, inside which tourists can travel across borders without control. His eye is on the Russian market, thinking of Russians flying into Girona before sailing from Palamós on a Mediterranean cruise.

In recent years Barcelona has become one of the biggest cruise ports in the world, and no doubt Palamós seeks to emulate that success.
