Palamos lifeboat centre to remain closed for 2nd successive summer

February 19, 2013

Cutbacks continue to bite in Spain, as evidenced by the decision to keep the lifeboat centre in Palamos closed for the second year running.

The centre had been opened in 2002 but forced to shut down last year due to government cutbacks. The centre was not in operation year round, opening only to deal with the increased pressure on the lifeboat service in the summer months.

The Palamos centre will be reopened as soon as economically viable, according to a spokesman.
