One of Catalonia’s Christmas traditions is the el caganer, literally “the crapper”, a figurine originally dressed as a Catalan peasant with his trousers around his ankles in the middle of defecating. Dating from perhaps the late 18th century, although the origins are unclear, the figurine is placed in a nativity scene.

This year a family run business based in Torroella de Montgrí is producing caganers in the form of Barça player Neymar, as well as Moto GP World Champion Marc Márquez according to an article in La Vanguardia, while checking the company’s website reveals the best selling caganer is in the form of the new Pope, and the entire FC Barcelona selection seems to be represented.

In fact, take a look – nobody is spared the indignity.
