Lloret extends shop opening hours in summer

May 18, 2013

The town council of Lloret de Mar has announced an extension of the hours shops can remain open in July and August by one hour to 11 pm. Although no reason has been given for the extension, it is likely to be to help shopkeepers weather the crisis better by having an extra hour to fleece the tourists off their wares.

Lloret seems to be pushing itself as a shopping destination, as earlier in the week I saw a video promoting Lloret’s shopping. What was most surprising is that Lloret actually looked like somewhere you might want to go, but not enough to actually make me want to go there.

It’s difficult to know what the attraction for Lloret is, the town consists largely of ugly high rise hotels and apartments and goes of out its way to appeal to the holidaymakers who don’t really care where they are as long as it has sun, sea and cheap booze; Lloret has all of that in buckets.
