L’Escala agrees deal to acquire military land
February 2, 2013If you think back to l’Escala of perhaps some 15 years ago you may remember the area between Riells and Montgó was used as a military training camp. Although it has been opened up since the 1990s, the land has continued to be owned by the Spanish Ministry of Defence.
However, that is all set to change with the announcement that l’Escala has come to an agreement with the Defence Ministry to pay €100,000 for the land. The price, for 130,000 square metres of land, is relatively low because it is classed as rustic and will not be developed.
The town council is also negotiating the purchase of Ca les Monges, a building owned by the local diocese. However, the poor state of the building means it is likely to be demolished.
