Latest on Baix Empordà fire

The Baixa Empordà fire that firefighters have been dealing with since yesterday evening is under control on three fronts, with the area around Flaçà and Foixà remaining the focus of their efforts this afternoon.

Some areas are without power due to the fire, but official sources say that while a couple of barns were burnt, no homes have been destroyed. This morning the wind dropped so that seven aircraft were able to tackle the blaze, but the tramuntana wind is forecast to get worse again and the risk of fire throughout Catalonia remains high until Sunday.

Be especially careful and aware of the situation and please do not throw cigarette butts out the window of your car under any circumstance. You might think you’ve put them out, but fires are all too often caused by discarded cigarette ends.
