June sees record drop in Catalonia’s jobless
July 2, 2013 Leave your thoughtsThe number of registered unemployed in Catalonia fell by nearly 25,000 in June according to the latest figures released yesterday, the fourth consecutive month of falls.
While June traditional sees a fall in unemployment figures due to short term contracts by tourist related businesses, the 3.18 percent fall compared with May is unprecedented, although figures only go back to 1996. The previous record was in 2010 when the number of unemployed in Catalonia fell by more than 20,000.
In the rest of Spain this pattern was repeated, perhaps indicating the first tentative green shoots of a recovery that has been a long time coming. We can only watch and see over the next few months.
