Spanish railway company Renfe is working towards providing a direct high speed rail link between Barcelona and Paris without requiring a transfer in Figueres, as is now required. The direct link is planned to come into effect at the end of April.

The current travel time between the cities is between six hours thirty minutes and seven hours, depending on the transfer in Figueres, but the direct route will cut this down to six hours 20 minutes.

The train will continue its twice daily run, stopping in Girona, Figueres, Perpignan, Narbonne, Nimes and Valence along the way. The new rail link is proving to be massively popular in Catalonia and should provide a convenient way formFrench tourists to travel to the Costa Brava this summer, disembarking in Figueres and Girona, from where they can hire a car or use public transport to get to their final destination.
