HGVs to be banned from using N-II this year

January 26, 2013

HGVs are to be banned from the N-II according plans drains up by the Catalan minister for planning and sustainability, a move that is long overdue on the “road of death”.

In the next few months large vehicles will be forced instead to use the AP-7 motorway, which is unattractive for many hauliers because it levies a toll on users.

Although the tonnage has not yet been specified, the minister said that in addition of weight, the time of day would be another consideration to whether any particular lorry should use the AP-7 in place of the N-II.

Work stopped on improvements to a large section of the N-II near Caldes de Malavella two years ago due to the cutbacks. Driving along this section is a little like driving through a building site, with the spectre of half finished bridges, while an area which seems to have been destined to be the new route of the road has become overgrown.
