Girona sees increase in tourism

Girona is currently experiencing something of a tourism renaissance, with the number of visitors to the city increasing despite higher hotel rates and many bookings are made at the last minute.

Three main reasons are cited for the increase in tourist numbers; the new high speed train, which runs between Madrid and Paris via Barcelona, Girona among other stops; the increase in Russian tourists, who want to experience the history and culture of Girona; and the success of Celler de Can Roca in being named the best restaurant in the world, putting Girona firmly on the culinary map.
