Girona property market records 23.1% increase in sales during May

July 12, 2013

House sales in Catalonia recorded a 13.5 percent year on year increase in May, which followed a 15.3 percent increase in April and suggests that the property market may be picking up.

The strongest recovery is in Tarragona, with the province of Girona, which includes the Costa Brava, second strongest with an increase of 23.1 percent. A different picture is painted across the rest of Spain though, with the number of properties sold down 3.7 percent.

No explanation for Catalonia’s revival is given, but perhaps realistic price expectations have attracted foreign buyers into the market as, anecdotally at least, there appears to be little domestic demand.
