Girona airport sees passenger numbers down further in November
December 18, 2013 Leave your thoughtsPassenger numbers at Girona airport during November were down 7.1% compared with the same month in 2012, a figure that is underlined by the overall 3.2% growth at airports throughout Spain.
A large part of this decline can be explained by Ryanair moving more of its flights to Barcelona airport. While it is understandable, since a bulk of inward traffic is headed to Barcelona and Girona means a longer journey for outgoing passengers, it is a pity to see the economic benefit brought by Ryanair to the area going down the drain.
Perhaps it will act as a lesson in the future, although somehow I doubt it. If an area benefits from a single company, especially one that acts as ruthlessly as Ryanair, it comes as a particularly hard blow when that company retreats.
