Formula 1 arrives in Catalonia
May 10, 2013Although not within the counties that make up the Costa Brava, the big event in Catalonia this weekend is the Formula 1 Grand Prix at Montmeló’s Circuit de Catalunya.
The Spanish Grand Prix has been a regular fixture of the Circuit de Catalunya since the early 1990s and is well known to the drivers as pre-season testing takes place there.
The circuit is relatively easy to get to from the Costa Brava and so motor-sports enthusiasts are likely to be making their way their by road and rail. The train station is about a mile from the circuit and a relatively easy walk. The line runs from Figueres to Barcelona by way of Girona, and depending on the train you get on, a number of other stops along the way too; if it is the fast train you’ll need to change at Mataró.
As a Lewis Hamilton fan I’m hoping that Mercedes have been able to make some real advances over the last three weeks to put him back on the podium in Catalonia.
