Foreigners now make up 28% of Alt Empordà population
November 11, 2013Foreigners now make up a whopping 28% of the population of the Alt Empordà according to statistics released last week. The stats come from the number of people registered with local councils in the comarca and so may be even greater if a large number of people have failed to register.
The bulk of the foreign population (38%) is European, with North Africans accounting for 28% and Latin Americans 19%. The figures also show that the immigrant population has been disproportionally affected by unemployment since the start of the crisis.
