Foreign buyers account for 1 in 3 Girona house sales

Foreign buyers now account for more than one third of property sales in the province of Girona, according to new figures, which puts the figure at 34% of 3,480 transactions in the first half of this year.

The proportion of foreign buyers has trebled since the start of the crisis, when just 10%’of properties went to overseas purchasers.

Buyers tend to be French or Belgian and look for fairly modest second homes that tend not to be right on the sea. After these are buyers from Russia and other former soviet bloc countries looking for more elaborate properties.
