Exhibition of photos of Franco’s bunkers opens in la Jonquera

September 17, 2013

The Museu Memorial de l’Exili de la Jonquera (MUME) yesterday opened an exhibition of photographs of some of the bunkers built by Spain during the Franco era.

The bunkers, which remained hidden until last years’s massive forest fires that swept the Ampurdan, were constructed between 1944 and 1955 and ran from Cap de Creus, along the Pyrenees, to the Basque Country.

The were built to protect against a resistance of Spanish exiles, as well as an allied attack following the liberation of France.
