Environmental group blasts Cap de Creus oil plans
February 18, 2013An environmental group has issued s statement over the weekend criticising the proposed seismic survey in the area of Cap de Creus by a British oil prospector following permission being granted by the Ministry of Industry.
According to Oceana the tests will reduce the amount of fish caught by half, threatening commercial and leisure fishing. It will also threaten endangered species of marine life in the area, such as whales, dolphins and turtles whose breeding grounds will be disrupted by the tests.
The tests, which would go on for three months, would also create considerable noise and, according to the group, would take place around the clock creating considerable disturbance.
