Documentary about the tomato’s arrival in Spain being shot in Tossa
June 6, 2013Anyone in Tossa de Mar this week may have noticed a replica of the Spanish galleon that first circumnavigated the world anchored offshore. The original ship, the Nao Victoria, was part of the expedition lead by Ferdinand Magellan, who died on the voyage.
The replica is being used in a documentary being shot in Tossa about the arrival of the tomato in Spain. While we take it for granted today, it of course originated in the New World. Just think what life would be like with tomatoe sauce, tomato salad, pa amb tomàquet (which I’ll be covering soon) or Bloody Mary’s.
The link below includes a photo of the ship if you’d like to take a look.
