Decade of growth in Girona homes revealed by new stats

April 19, 2013

The number of dwellings in the province of Girona grew by nearly 19 percent between 2001 and 2011, according to recently released figures.

The rise is principally due to an increase in the number of main residences as the number of second homes has actually fallen by more than 3 percent, while vacant properties have increased by 5 percent.

Narrowing the focus down to just the Ampurdan a different picture is painted. There the number of holiday homes and vacant property makes up more than half of all dwellings, which will probably be little surprise to anyone familiar with any of the coastal resorts in the off season.
