Coastal areas near Sant Feliu de Guíxols to become maritime micro-reserves

February 28, 2013

The council of Sant Feliu de Guíxols has come to an accord with representitives of the town’s fishermen and diving centres over protecting two areas of local coast.

The two areas have species of environmental interest, the first of which is located between cala Vigatà and Punta de Garbí at the south of the bay, and the coastline stretching from the port to Sant Pol in the north, where the greatest number of dives take place.

According to the mayor the accord was relatively easy to agree since harpoon guns would be banned in the areas of the reserve, while the six boats that fish in the area use traditional techniques. The number of dives per year would be limited and dive boats would be required to avoid diving near the fishing boats.
