Catalonia sees 4% increase in volume of house sales year-on-year in December
February 11, 2013 Leave your thoughtsAccording to provisional figures released this morning by the Spanish institute of statistics, house sales during December 2012 rose in Catalonia by 4% year on year.
The increased number of transactions may be in part thanks to buyers taking advantage of tax credits on properties bought between 12th May and 31st December 2012, and bringing forward their purchases into December. Of the 2,885 properties sold, one third were new builds; in the rest of Spain the overall figure for December was a 2.3% increase compared with the same month in 2011.
However, throughout 2012 the number of sales was down 11.3% making it the second consecutive year to see a fall in the number of transactions. In 2010 things picked up by 6.8%, helped by the government offering tax concessions to buyers.
