Catalan government to miss tourist tax revenue target by 60%
June 5, 2013The Catalan government’s forecast for revenue raised through the controversial tourist tax, which has faced opposition from the tourist sector from the start, has been slashed by 60 percent from an initial projection of €100 million per year to between €35 and €45 million.
Revenues will be shared between the municipalities 30 percent) and the Generalitat, which will allocate the remaining 70 percent in agreement with business and industry associations. The long term goal though remains to raise €100 million in tourist taxes.
The question is, how did they get their forecast so wrong?
