Calonge-Sant Antoni chooses beach preservation solution

Residents of Calonge-Sant Antoni have voted to keep the t-shaped breakwaters that help maintain the beach and keep the sand from being swept away during storms.

Erosion of the beach has become a particular problem here due to the expansion of the nearby port at Palamós and other changes which have affected the bay that have rendered the existing breakwaters ineffective, particularly along the promenade .

Two proposals were put on the table, both including the construction of two new, partially submerged breakwaters, the main difference between them was whether the existing breakwaters would remain or not.
