Burst sewer closes parts of Platja d’Aro beach
August 2, 2013Part of Platja d’Aro’s main beach was red flagged this afternoon after a sewage pipe ruptured spilling effluent into the sea. People on the beach were told not to enter the water, while those already swimming were eventually persuaded out of the water as, according to the lifeguard radio, patches of dark waste were seen floating near the beach.
Lifeguards were told to inform the public that “treated water” had been released rather than treated sewage and several hours after the red flags were still flying.
Tip for the weekend: find another beach.
