British tourism up 5% in Catalonia in 2013
November 22, 2013The number of British tourists visiting Catalonia in the first nine months of 2013 has been up around 5% compared to 2012, a year that saw that saw a 25% jump over 2011, with around 30% of these heading for the Costa Brava.
The last couple of years has seen a rise in the number of tourists arriving over the summer, partly because of outreach to undeveloped tourist markets such as Russia but also partly because of a trend to cutting back on holiday expenses and countries such as the UK looking back to traditional beach holiday destinations such as Spain.
The Costa Brava – indeed, Catalonia as a whole – is also developing its image in countries such as the United States and Israel resulting in, anecdotally at least, a increase of visitors from these countries.
