A Scottish oil company has applied for a permit to search for oil and gas of the coast of the Costa Brava and Maresme (the area south of the Costa Brava), according to news reports. La Vanguardia reports that Capricorn Spain Limited SL requested permission for the exploration ofman area amounting to one million acres situated between the Gulf of Leon and the Catalan coast a year ago.

This area includes Cap de Creus, which is a protected area, and environmental groups warn that the surveys will be detrimental to marine ecosystems.

The area is one of outstanding beauty and the striking rock formations can be seen in many of Salvador Dali’s works. Having spent many summers in Port de la Selva and having dived in the marine reserve it would be a pity undo all the hard work that has been done until now.
