Big increase in Russian tourists to Costa Brava expected this summer
May 20, 2013Spain is preparing itself for a massive influx of Russian tourists this summer with the majority of them staying in Catalonia. 61 percent of the million Russians expected to travel to Spain are headed for Catalonia and many of these will stay on the Costa Brava.
In the Costa Brava the number of tourists from Russia is expected to surge 50 percent compared with 2012, headed for Lloret de Mar, Blanes and Platja d’Aro, flying into both Barcelona airport as well as Girona.
2,400 charter flights will reportedly bring in Russians from Moscow and St Petersburg and according to AENA, the Spanish airport operator, Russians spend an average of €25 per person in airport shops, mainly on alcohol and perfume.
