Another violent burglary in Sant Cristina – 86 year old tied up and threatened with knife

Earlier in the year the local police started to really clamp down on crime after an alarming number of burglaries on properties, particularly in the Baix Empordà and La Selva.

Recently they have made real progress in closing down the crime networks with what seems like dozens of arrests across the area in a number of towns. Between November 2012 and January 2013 there were 170 violent assaults in homes according to police sources, with the last incident reported on February 26th.

However, in the early hours on Sunday morning a house belonging to an 86 year old Dutch woman in Santa Cristina d’Aro was broken into and the owner tied up and threatened with a knife. According to police the modus operandi is similar to that of a burglary at the end of January, also in Santa Cristina.
