Ampurdan sees foreign retirees double in number

May 15, 2013

Figures released recently claim to show that more people from Europe are choosing to retire in the Alt Empordà region of the Costa Brava.

The number of over 65s in the Alt Empordà has grown by 20 percent in eight years while in Catalonia overall that figure is just 12 percent according to these figures; however, the number of foreigners who have retired in the region has doubled.

This appears to be mainly due to people from European Union countries who own second homes on the coast and spend their time between the Costa Brava and their home country. The report also says that the number of Asians and Americans has doubled since 2004.
