75% of Catalans believe independence vote should go ahead

December 17, 2013

Almost three quarters of Catalans believe the Spanish government should authorise the referendum on independence scheduled for next November, in a poll by Spanish daily El Periódico.

The poll also reveals that 20% of Catalans believe the poll should be banned, while the number who believe that it will not take place is just ahead of those who believe it will, with 43% and 42% respectively. The survey also puts at nearly 41% the number of Catalans who support independence, 20% a federal state, 24% an autonomy and 5.5% a region of Spain.

It is early days and it is clear that there is going to have to be a lot of work if the vote is to even go ahead, so watch this space.
