3 homes evacuated in Torroella after rain causes landslide

November 19, 2013

Police advised three families to spend Sunday night away from their homes after torrential rain caused a landslide that caused a large rock to become detached from a wall. The rock, which measured 1.7 metres along its longest side, landed in the garden of one of the families and finally settled against the house.

A technical inspection of the damage was expected yesterday to establish whether any structural damage was caused, and while nobody was injured two other houses were also evacuated as a precautionary measure.

The rain affected a large part of Catalonia, causing rivers to burst their banks in some areas and extensive flooding.
