Tossa de Mar has an association with tourism going back to the first wave of foreign holidaymakers in the 1950s. It remains as popular as ever and unsurprisingly has a wide choice of hotels from which to choose.
The hotels
Hotels in Tossa cater for just about all needs with accommodation available in all categories up to 4-star. The hotels are concentrated around the centre of town just next to the castle. This is the area in which the town expanded outside the medieval walls from the 16th century. Around here you’ll find yourself in a maze of narrow streets.
A number of hotels are situated a few streets away from the beach. The town is fairly compact though and you’re never more than ten minutes or so away from the sea.
As well as the hotels on the sea front near the castle, there are also a couple at the other end of the beach. These are right on Mar Menuda beach, separated from the old town by a stretch of cliffs.

Hotel Diana
*** Plaça Espanya, 6
This family run boutique hotel was designed in the modernista style by one of Gaudí’s disciples. It’s ideally placed just a few steps from the beach and includes a bar and restaurant. While there is no on site parking the hotel does have a private covered car park 300 metres away. Bear in mind that traffic in Tossa is restricted during the high season.
Rooms are decorated in neutral tones with either a sea view or overlook the town’s main square, many with a balcony. As well as double rooms there are family rooms sleeping three or four and junior suites and a lovely split level suite sleeping up to four.
The restaurant offers a selection of tapas and local specialities with an emphasis on seafood dishes.
Hotel Tarull
** Carrer del Tarull, 26
This highly rated family run hotel has old fashioned charm and is only a few minutes from the beach. There is a comfortable ground floor bar but no restaurant, although there is a first floor dining room for breakfast. There are numerous restaurants in the town so you’re sure to find somewhere good to eat.
The hotel also has a roof terrace where you can enjoy spectacular views over the town and far out to sea. Rooms are comfortable and can sleep from one person up to a family of five. If you have any special requirements the owner is happy to help out. The hotel also has private parking.
Hotel Mar Blau Tossa
* Avinguda Costa Brava, 16
A simple hotel just 250 metres from the beach with rooms refurbished in a comfortable modern style, the Mar Blau is highly rated by guests. Many rooms have a balcony with a view of the town or over the river.
While the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant there is a breakfast room and an outdoor terrace. The hotel also has parking but specifically doesn’t allow pets.
Hotel Casa Granados
**** Carrer de la Roqueta, 10-12
This 4-star boutique hotel was once a 19th century house with stone walls that give it plenty of charm. With just seven rooms, decorated in old-school splendour, guests can be assured of receiving the full attention of the staff. Such is the level of service that it is sometimes considered one of the best hotels on the Costa Brava.
The hotel has a pool and is within easy reach of the beach. The restaurant is situated in the old house’s patios and serves contemporary cuisine prepared from fresh local produce. The a la carte menu is fairly limited but focuses on serving superb food.
As well as all this guests can relax in the bar or the terrace overlooking the city wall. There is also a wellness zone with sauna, jacuzzi, and massage room. The hotel also has laundry facilities and personal assistants are even available to anyone who should require one.
Hotel Windsor
*** Carrer Nou, 28
This nicely decorated hotel has a restaurant and swimming pool and is only 150 metres from the beach. It offers a highly personalised service with a stylish decor and parking can be reserved for an additional fee. Rooms have rather muted modern decor with the communal areas seeming to have a rather ethnic slant – perhaps taking inspiration from India.
The hotel has 60 cleanly modern rooms, some of which have a terrace. Guests enjoy a buffet breakfast consisting of fruit, cheese, cold meats and eggs as well as bread and pastries. There is also a snack bar where you can order drinks, salads and tapas. For times when you don’t want to walk to the beach the hotel has a private pool with sun loungers.
Hotel Delfín
**** Avinguda Costa Brava, 2
A comfortable tourist hotel with buffet restaurant and bar. It’s also just 150 metres from the beach but has a large rooftop pool offering vistas of the surroundings.
Rooms are modern with lots of wood and blue on display. It’s good choice for the area, with the sea and sky and pine covered hills that surround Tossa. The hotel has a good choice for dining too. As well as a breakfast buffet there is a ground floor snack bar offering tapas, salads and sandwiches as well as burgers and pizzas.
There is also the stylishly decorated Restaurant Via Brava, which offers and fixed price menu. The food tends to modern Catalan with a small but decent wine list. You can definitely eat well here.
Hotel Florida
*** Avinguda de sa Palma, 12
A slightly old fashioned hotel near the main beach that remains popular. The hotel has a bar but no restaurant and there is a hot tub available for guests. The 49 rooms are fairly basic but comfortable and have a balcony. There is an airy breakfast room serving fruit, meats and cheeses along with bread and pastries. A secure car park is available to guests for a fee.
Although Hotel Florida has no restaurant there is a bar serving snacks. As well as cocktails and other drinks El Floridita bar provides hot and cold sandwiches throughout the day.
Hostal del Mar
** Passeig del Mar, 13
Located on the sea front near the castle, the family run Hostal del Mar provides basic accommodation perfect for many holidaymakers. The hostal has extremely good ratings and offers extremely good value for money.
Rooms are functional but the decor is tasteful and all have a private bathroom. Superior rooms have balcony with superb views of the sea and castle. While there is no restaurant, guests can ask for breakfast to be served in their rooms. There is a pizzeria opposite though and numerous restaurants within easy reach.
Since there is no car park the hostal recommends guests leave their cars at the municipal car park near the bus station, around ten minutes away.
Hotel Mar Menuda
**** Avinguda Mar Menuda
Located on the seafront at Mar Menuda beach, this 55 room hotel has all the facilities you need to holiday comfortably. The hotel has a bar, restaurant and swimming pool and just 15 minutes walk from the old town and parking and charging are available for an additional fee.
The rooms are bright and airy with modern decor, most with a balcony and many with a sea view. The family rooms can sleep up to four guests. The restaurants serves a buffet breakfast, with an a la carte lunch and dinner service. Dishes from the main menu are fairly typical of the region with an emphasis on seafood, while the snack menu has tapas, salads and pizzas.
There’s also a lunchtime fixed price paella menu consisting of a starter followed by your choice of paella or other rice or noodle dish including bread, wine and dessert.
Gran Hotel Reymar

Also on Mar Menuda beach you’ll find this 4-star hotel with spectacular sea views. Rooms are decorated in a comfortable modern style, many with a balcony and/or sea view. As well as double and triple rooms the hotel offers family rooms, Junior suites, Garden suites and villas with three bedrooms.
Here the facilities include a spa and large outdoor pool and there is valet parking for 70 cars. The hotel’s restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and specialises in Mediterranean cuisine. Dishes are prepared using fresh local produce and when you eat here you’ll enjoy truly spectacular views over the sea. Most wines are locally sourced, with a selection of wines from other regions of Spain.
Lastly, the hotel has its own dive school. If you want to learn to dive, or simply want to try scuba diving out with an instructor, you can do so without leaving your hotel.
