The Costa Brava’s best beaches #6: Tamariua

Just near Port de la Selva is a small rocky beach popular with naturists. If you drive through the village you’ll find a narrow road that winds along the cliff face until you reach the end fo teh road. While it is technically prohibited to park along this road and in the turning circle, that’s exactly what everyone does and I’ve never seen the police act against such mass parking violations.

Down the stone steps and eventually onto the beach, it can be a little uncomfortable until you’ve got used to the rocks. This small bay is great for snorkelling though and while it doesn’t slope particulalrly steeply from the beach, it does get to a fair depth at the mouth of the bay.

There you’ll see plenty of fish and, if you’re lucky, octopusses too. It is here that I once came across a shoal of millions of anchiovies and was able to swim into their mass as if they were one single organism that divided at will to allow me through.

As well as the beach there you can sometimes find comfortbale places to put your towel to the sides of the bay, although you may also get invaded. The main problem here is that you start to lose the sun quite early and so will find yourself back on the main beach for the final sunset of the day.

At one time they allowed a chiringuito on the beach, although it never made any sense out there, with a Diesel generator providing power. Thankfully that is long gone and so you can enjoy the tranquility instead.
