Camping in Platja d’Aro

A look at the options available to campers in Platja d’Aro.

With its long sandy beach and abundant nightlife, Platja d’Aro is ideal for anyone who wants to spend all day on the beach then party at night. But while the bulk of holidaymakers to Platja d’Aro stay in a private apartment or hotel, campers are also well served.

There are a number of campsites in or close to Platja d’Aro, one of which is right next to the beach. For many people that makes it just perfect.

The others are slightly inland and while you can walk or cycle, it’s much more comfortable drive to the town centre, especially in the heat.

Simply leave your car in the free car park from where the beach is just five minutes on foot. Parking there is rarely a problem, although the weekly market takes place there every Friday.

If you’ve got  motorhome then you can get free parking in the area of Carrer Roma/Carrer Paris off season. You can only stay for up to 48 hours but pay nothing between October and March.

During the other six months of the year you pay using the meters. It’s hard to recommend though as there are no facilities, just camper van after camper van.

The Campsites

So let’s take a look at what each of the campsites has to offer. We’ll start the one beside the beach.

Camping Vall d’Or

Avinguda Verona i Terol, 41

You’ll find Camping Vall d’Or sandwiched between the river Ridaura where it meets the beach and the marina of Port d’Aro. The campsite has 500 pitches, many of which are tree shaded and suitable for tents, caravans and camper vans. There are also 21 mobile homes suitable for 4 to 6 guests.

The campsite is open between mid-March and the end of September and ideal for anyone wanting both easy access to the beach and to all the amenities available in the town itself. It’s just a five minute walk to the retail and leisure park that include a cinema that sometimes shows films in English, a bowling alley and discotheque.

Onsite facilities include a snack bar where you can order anything from breakfast through to tapas or a mixed grill. There is also a supermarket and bakery, a play area for the kids and various organised activities throughout the week. Pets are welcome for no additional fee although the campsite doesn’t allow dangerous breeds.
