Estartit hotels

Thinking of a holiday in Estartit? Let’s look at your hotel options.

With its long sandy beach Estartit has long been a favourite summer destination for the UK and all over Europe.  Although the tiny fishing village that Estartit was was has been swamped by the urban sprawl that surrounds it, the old town still retains some character.

And with the Medes Islands a mile offshore, Estartit is one of the best places to scuba dive, not only on the Costa Brava, but in Spain.

The hotels

As is common in most of the Costa Brava, Estartit’s hotels tend to be family run establishments and you’ll certainly not find any of the big chains here. The hotels and hostals below are listed from highest rated to lowest, with an overview of what to expect to find.

Hotel Marisqueria Cal Tet

** Carrer Santa Anna, 38

This hotel and restaurant is ideally located just 150 metres from Estartit’s port and only 300 metres from the beach. It’s along a pedestrianised street in the old town with a stone clad ground floor with seating outside and a bar as you walk in. Guests particularly rate the location and food quality.

Originally Cal Tet was just a restaurant and only started offering accommodation in 2005. The eleven rooms are all comfortable doubles mixing contemporary with traditional elements. One is even equipped with a Jacuzzi.

The restaurant first opened in 1971 and specialises in shellfish and other seafood. The exposed stone walls and arches make it quite cosy and while it has been it retains much of the character of the original structure.

The hotel doesn’t accept pets and has no parking facilities.

Hotel Santa Anna

*** Carrer del Port, 46

Hotel Santa Anna is also on a pedestrianised street in the old town. It’s a great location for exploring the port and a short stroll to the main beach.

The hotel is an unassuming block with 52 modern rooms. There are singles, doubles and family rooms with a pool or courtyard view. While the rooms are quite bland, the restaurant’s exposed stone gives it character. The restaurant serves fish dishes and classic Catalan cuisine and breakfast can be taken on the roof terrace.

Guests can store diving equipment for free, which is a real plus. Equipment storage can be a bit of a problem as it’s extremely bulky and often wet! The hotel accepts pets but may charge you – check prior to booking. There is also parking, but you should reserve in advance and there is a daily charge.

Hotel Panorama

*** Av. Grecia, 5

Hotel Panorama is close to the beach with views across the sea towards the Medes Islands. Presumably that’s the reason for its name. It’s a typical boxy tourist hotel but ideal for the beach. It’s also a short walk to the narrow streets of the old town. It also has a dive centre on site, El Rei de Mar, and you can book scuba lessons or book yourself onto a dive boat to the Medes.

The 153 guest rooms are well done in blue and white with lots of wood. The colour scheme gives them a nautical feel. You can book doubles or family rooms.

Within the grounds are a garden and outdoor pool, which when illuminated at night looks quite spectacular. It also has a spa with indoor pool and a gym. It also has a bar and large buffet restaurant and during the summer puts on entertainment. The whole hotel is geared towards families.

The hotel doesn’t accept pets and there is a charge for parking although you can’t reserve.

Hotel Medes II

*** Carrer de Guillem de Montgrí, 38

Another hotel close to the beach is the Medes II. Again it’s in an uninteresting block with row upon row of balconies. The hotel is family run and while it’s close to the beach there is also swimming pool.

Many of the rooms have wooden flooring, matching the furniture and doors. It’s a bit old fashioned looking, lacking inspiration. But really you don’t need much more and there are family rooms available.

On the other hand, the restaurant is very attractive and quite typical of the region. The restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine including typical Catalan dishes and seafood. Dishes are prepared using locally sourced ingredients with service at lunch and dinner.

Hotel Medes II doesn’t accept pets, but parking is available. You need to reserve parking spot in advance and there is a daily fee.

Hostal Santa Clara

Passeig Marítim, 18

This guest house is set along a parade of tourist restaurants, bars and other tourist related businesses opposite the yacht club. It’s also close to the port’s car park. It’s a family run establishment that opened in 1969 with friendly and helpful staff.

Hostal Santa Clara has twenty five rooms which are comfortable if a little dated. That said they are homely. Twins/doubles and family rooms are available, all with en suite bathrooms.

Downstairs there is a bar and the restaurant is thoroughly modern. It serves cuina casolana – Catalan home cooking. They specialise in things like suquet, zarzuela, paella and fidueà. They also serve tapas as well as meat and fish dishes.

If you’re in Estartit for the diving you’ll be happy to know there is an area on the rooftop terrace where you can wash your dive equipment. That’s extremely useful. It’s not just for the divers though. There are tables and chairs set up with a view over the harbour from which you can glimpse the Medes islands.

Pets are not accepted and parking is available if you reserve and there is a daily charge.

Hotel Nereida

*** Av. Grècia, 61

Located out the outskirts of town the Nereida is a blue and white block overlooked by the 250 metre high Rocamaura. It’s around half a kilometre from the beach so while not right next to the sand it’s still an easy walk.

The hotel has double and family rooms, some of which are recently refurbished. The older rooms are rather plain and slightly dated but nothing serious to put you off. Some of the rooms look to be rather small though.

The restaurant serves Catalan cuisine with fresh fish caught locally. In the evenings you can also order drinks from the cocktail bar. While the hotel is dog friendly the restaurant is off limits to your furry friend. You might want to head to the beach in front of El Molino campsite though. It’s one of the few public beaches on the Costa Brava where dogs are allowed throughout the year.

Private parking is available for a daily fee. You need reserve in advance.

Hotel Flamingo

*  Carrer de l’Esglèsia, 112

With a huge flamingo emblazoned all the way up its side, this hotel is hard to miss from a distance. It’s below Rocamaura with a view of the Medes islands from the upper storeys. Rooms are fairly basic and a bit old fashioned but comfortable although there are some refurbished rooms with a much more up to date look. You can book twins and doubles, family rooms and apartments.

The Flamingo has a garden with pool, a restaurant open for lunch and dinner and a bar open until midnight. Divers will love the fact guests are provided an area to dry wetsuits and dive equipment – far easier than doing it in your bathroom.

The hotel accepts pets but you need to arrange them with the hotel in advance. The hotel can also provide pet bowls and baskets should you need them. Parking is available for a daily fee but you can’t reserve.

Restaurant Can Delfó has a harbour view and serves and modern take on traditional Catalan dishes. Expect to find meat, fish and seafood on the menu.
