One of the most popular areas for camping on the Costa Brava is in the area surrounding Sant Pere Pescador. The flat terrain makes it ideal for camping and the long sandy beach stretching from l’Escala to Empuriabrava makes it perfect for a beach holiday. There is plenty of choice here and the campsites are exceptionally well appointed.
The area is world renowned for its windsurfing and kitesurfing, but even if that isn’t your thing then several miles of sand beach are perfect for sunbathing, swimming or taking a long walk along the shore.
Here we split the campsites into those with access to the beach and those closer the town and the river Fluvià.
Campsites with beach access
In the area around Sant Pere Pescador the number of tourists staying in campsites easily outnumbers other types of accommodation. Several of the campsites are more like villages they are so large. Everything you could possibly need is catered for so much so you needn’t leave during your stay. Perhaps camping resort is a better description.
Camping Nautic Almata
Carretera de Càmping, Castelló d’Empúries
This campsite is in an extremely privileged position, lying as it does in the Aiguamolls d’Empordà wetlands on the banks of the river Fluvià and with direct access to the beach. The dog friendly pitches vary in size from 75 m² upwards and there are rental bungalows and villas as well as glamping options.
The campsite also has 110 moorings for boats of up to seven metres. There is a large pool area that also includes a paddling pool, a beach club serving food and drinks during the day, a poolside bar and restaurant, pizzeria and beach bar.
Càmping la Gaviota

Book a pitch for your tent, caravan or motorhome or rent a bungalow on this modestly sized campsite right on the beach within the protected Aiguamolls d’Empordà. It’s a great choice for anyone who likes the area but would prefer to avoid the larger campsites.
If you’re feeling energetic the campsite has bike hire, or you can book a course in windsurfing, kitesurfing or paddle boarding. Here you’ll find a restaurant and cafeteria as well as takeaway service. There is also a pool, supermarket and laundry facilities.
Camping l’Àmfora

At Camping l’Àmfora you get the choice of pitches of between 90 m² and 180 m², some with private toilet facilities, plus rental bungalows and chalets of various sizes. While the campsite’s location is perfect for days on the beach there is a large swimming area with four pools of various sizes and a waterslide.
The campsite also has a choice of restaurants, a supermarket and newsagent, cashpoints and a launderette. There are also on site medical services available for an hour each day . The campsite does accept dogs but check restrictions before booking.
Camping Aquarius
Camí Platja
Camping Aquarius is another highly regarded campsite close to the beach. It has pitches for tents and caravans as well as several rental bungalows and an apartment. You’ll find a supermarket with bakery, sports facilities including a fitness area and mini golf, and a surf school. The campsite has a water park for kids but no swimming pool.
The restaurant serves Spanish and international cuisine and has a terrace to enjoy those warm summer evenings. For more informal dining there is a takeaway and you can enjoy a cool drink with a snack at the beach bar.
Camping Las Dunas

Las Dunas is a large dog friendly campsite with pitches and rental bungalows. It has excellent facilities for all your needs while on holiday with a supermarket, equipment rental and a doctor on site. While dogs aren’t allowed in the bungalows there are a number of areas suitable for dogs and the campsite even has a showers for your furry friend.
Here you’ll find a large aquapark, including water slides and a large pool. There are organised activities for kids of all ages and the restaurant is located in an old farmhouse within the grounds. There is also a grill, a takeaway restaurant serving things like pizza and grilled chicken, bars and a nightclub, which is open to the public.
Camping La Ballena Allegre

Set back behind the dunes near Sant Martí d’Empordà and L’Escala, La Ballena Alegre offers both pitches and bungalows. The campsite is extremely well appointed with two pools in a landscaped gardens and stores selling fresh fruit and veg, fish, bread and wine and a pharmacy. It’s very comprehensive.
Of course there is the beach, where you can take part in windsurfing, kitesurfing or paddleboarding. Or simply put down your towel and sunbath! There are laundry services, a beauty centre, dishwashers, bike and fridge rental and medical services. From June to August there is a doctor on site at all times. Dog owners can take their pets on some pitches but check in advance of booking.
Campsites near town
Camping las Palmeras
Carretera de la Platja
Towards Sant Pere Pescador you’ll find Camping las Palmeras. It’s smaller than the campsites fronting the beach and ideal for families. Pitches are between 90 m² and 120 m² with power rated at 10A. The are also rental bungalows available.
The campsite has a lovely palm shaded swimming pool and puddling pool in well manicures gardens. There is a supermarket for all your needs and a bar-restaurant serving Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine sourced locally. As well as laundry facilities, dogs are welcome and even catered for with showers.
Càmping Riu

Set next to the river, Càmping Riu has a choice of pitches, bungalows and glamping options. Dogs are accepted on pitches but check availability if you’re renting a bungalow or glamping. The campsite has a swimming pool while kids will love the paddling pool and waterslide.
While staying here you’ll find a laundry facilities, a bakery, supermarket and bar-restaurant serving tapas, local specialities and international cuisine. They also offer a takeaway and delivery service. The campsite’s jetty is on the river with access to the sea with moorings available to guests.
