Guide to camping in l’Escala

Visiting the Costa Brava and planning on camping? L’Escala has a great choice of campsites.

While the majority of visitors to l’Escala stay in private villas or holiday apartments, the town also has a really good selection of campsites to choose from.

When it comes to choosing your campsite you need to balance location, facilities and size. While you’ll get a better range of facilities at the larger camps you may prefer something more tranquil. And if you’re planning on sightseeing or exploring beaches outside the town the distance to the beach probably isn’t so critical.

Other things to consider are how close you are to the town’s main supermarkets or whether you can walk to a variety of restaurants and enjoy a glass or two of wine with your evening meal. Campsite supermarkets are all very well but lack the range the major chains offer and you may want a chance from cooking on a portable gas stove or eating in the campsite’s restaurant. Only you can know what is right for you.

The Campsites

Campers have an excellent choice in L’Escala and while most campsites are within easy walking distance of the sea, one is actually in the protected Montgrí natural park.

Camping L’Escala

Carrer del Camí Ample, 21

Located between the old town and the start of Riells beach, Camping L’Escala offers 140 spacious pitches shaded by pine trees partly separated by leafy hedges.

The campsite also has a number of bungalows for up to four people. These are small but comfortable with a double bedroom and sofa bed in the living area and include a kitchenette, TV and wifi. Bed linen and towels are provided.

Although animals are allowed on the camping pitches during the low season the campsite unfortunately doesn’t allow pets throughout July and first three weeks of August.
