Llançà hotels

Many of the visitors to Llançà tend to be from Girona or Barcelona, many owning second homes. Little wonder why. The area is largely unspoilt and fantastic for getting away from it all.

Because Llançà is so close to the French border you’ll find many tourists from France as well as the rest of continental Europe. Most visitors stay in holiday apartments or the camp site. But there are also limited places in town’s few hotels and guest houses.

The accommodation

You won’t find any hotel chains in Llançà. What you’ll find instead are family run establishments where you’ll be well looked after while in Llançà. And if you’re looking for luxury you can get that here too.

Mirimar Rooms

Passeig Marítim, 7

If you’re looking for exclusive accommodation with a foodie paradise then look no further than the Miramar Rooms. Here you’ll find five highly rated modern rooms above a 2-star Michelin restaurant.

There you can sample dishes prepared from ecologically grown local produce. The restaurant offers guest two distinct menus. While the first is what chef Paco Pérez calls transgressive, the other is more traditional. Both are as innovative as you would expect from a chef with two Michelin stars.

Externally the whitewashed building is old school Spanish. But within the tastefully decorated rooms are well furnished and all have private bathrooms. It is absolutely ideal for couples.

Located right on the promenade, you are a few steps from Llançà’s main beach and close to the port. The staff are first class and as well as fine dining you can expect a chef’s breakfast with absolutely fresh ingredients.

The hotel doesn’t allow pets and parking is on the street.

La Goleta

Carrer Pintor Tarruella, 22

This family run hotel is only 100 metres from the beach. In fact it’s so close to the sea that guests can get a beach towel for free at reception. All you need to do is ask!

Externally it looks like a traditional Spanish hotel and inside the communal areas are tastefully decorated. Rooms tend to plain white and beige with contrasting black highlights or wood panelling. Perhaps they would benefit from a little colour but all 28 have private bathrooms.

Guests rate highly the hotel staff and the restaurant is one of the best in Llançà. It specialises seasonal seafood and meat dishes from the Empordà region. The chef has trained in some of Europe’s top restaurants, including El Celler de Can Roca in Girona.

The hotel has a private pool open in the summer and a terrace bar. There is also adequate free parking on site. Pets are not allowed.

Hostal Lara

Carrer Bernat Metge, 2

This modern building in the old town contains a restaurant and cafe on the ground floor with a number of rooms above. It is 15 minutes or so from the port.

The rooms look rather dated but are clean and all have private bathrooms.  There are double and twin rooms and you can add an additional bed or cot on request. A child under the age of 4 can also stay free of charge provided no additional bed/cot is needed.

The restaurant serves a variety of sandwiches, tapas, salads, paella, seafood and meat dishes – all fairly typical. Some guests have reported that the hostal can be rather noisy though.

Hotel Grifeu

*** Carretera de Portbou, 36

If you’re looking for a hotel right on the beach then it’s hard to think of a better located hotel than the Grifeu. It takes it’s name from the beach over which it looks.

The hotel is away from the hustle and bustle of Llançà’s port area and many of the rooms have a sea view. Most rooms have a balcony with a view directly over the sea or of the mountains. Prestige Rooms are quirkily decorated in a modern style with vintage twists. Standard rooms are comfortable but decor is more typical. Family rooms are also available.

The hotel has a terrace restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean. There you can enjoy fresh seafood and other dishes typical of the Costa Brava. There is also a pizzaria.

Although pets are not accepted parking is free. Given that the hotel is some distance from Llançà a car is useful to have when staying here.

Hotel Beri

** Carrer de la Creu, 16

This modern 2-star hotel is situated in the old town just fifteen minutes from the beach.

Rooms are in two annexes and furnished in a traditional style. They are comfortable if a little Spartan. As well as double and twin there are also triples and quads for young families.

The hotel has a restaurant although it seems rather institutional rather than cosy. But there is a pool on the roof and a sun terrace for guests to use in the summer. The bar and reception area both seems old fashioned in contrast to the façade of the building.

But on the other hand the accommodation is good value with free parking and pets are accepted with no additional charge. Contact the hotel in advance though if you wish to take your furry friend.
