Endangered corals found in Illes Medes

Two species of endangered coral have been found in the Medes islands off Estartit, which for the past two decades have been designated a protected zone from which it is forbidden to fish or even remove anything.

The two types of coral in question are being endangered by climate change, but the fact that they are found in the Medes shows that strictly controlled zones such as this – Cap de Creus is also protected – can really pay off.
