Parking in l’Escala

Travelling to l’Escala by car? Here we look at where you can park when you get there.

Since the vast majority of people holidaying in l’Escala travel by car there is a huge demand for parking during the summer.

If you’re staying in a villa or apartment then there is a good chance you’ll have parking included, although for some reason many people just park on the street.

As an aside, I really don’t know why. After all, it doesn’t take much effort to park on your driveway, really helps alleviate overcrowded roads and your car is less likely to get damaged.

And if you’re staying on a campsite then you have parking covered for your vehicle.

But if you’re going out and about in the town then chances are at some point you’ll need to find somewhere to park.

When it comes to parking, l’Escala has plenty of choice. But while parking is mostly free in the winter, during the tourist season (generally June to September) it comes at a price.

Free parking

As almost all the town’s parking spaces are free off season let’s look at those first. In the following examples you don’t need to pay for your parking space:

  • You can park on the road providing no restriction is indicated. Finding a free space might take some time.
  • A parking bay indicated in white paint on the road is free to park all year round.
  • A white or unmarked parking bay in a car park that isn’t controlled by either a barrier or an attendant.
  • A blue parking bay off season. If they are removed or covered there is no need to pay 😉
  • A blue parking bay during lunchtime and evenings. The free periods are indicated on the meter.
  • A blue parking bay on Sundays and holidays. Check at the meter as above.

Pay car parks

If you’re visiting during the tourist season then you’ll have to pay for almost all parking. In the following situations you’ll have to pay:

  • A private car park will have either an attendant or a barrier controlling access. You’ll collect a ticket when you enter and pay on exit.
  • A blue parking bay in the high season during working hours. Look out for the parking meters both on roadside parking and in municipal car parks.

Those are the general things to look for. If you’re looking for a car park in a specific area of l’Escala then check the map below:
