As well as the town of Palafrugell itself this area of the Costa Brava encompasses a number of villages, both coastal and inland.
The rugged coastline around Palafrugell is some of the most picturesque on the entire Costa Brava, so it’s no surprise the coastal villages here are so popular. Calella de Palafrugell, Llafranc and Tamariu are the main tourist resorts although there are a number of smaller hamlets too.
Palafrugell is around four kilometres inland and has a small number of hotels. Accommodation varies from the early 17th century Hostal l’Estrella to the modern Arrels d’Emporda aparthotel. If you have a car and plan on exploring the coastline then you have the advantage of staying in a moderately sized town with all the facilities you’d expect.
The walls of the medieval town no longer remain but the narrow streets around Plaça Nova are worth exploring. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the square. The town has a number of museums, including one devote to the cork industry that thrived here during the 18th and 19th centuries.
Hotels in Palafrugell
While many visitors to the area stay at one of the nearby coastal villages it is also worthwhile considering staying in Palafrugell itself. You get the advantages of the town but are still only 10 minutes drive from some of the Costa Brava’s most picturesque seaside villages.
