Sant Pere Pescador hotels

Here we take an in-depth look at Sant Pere Pescador’s hotels.

Sant Pere Pescador lies slightly inland from the long stretch of beach in the Bay of Roses, between Empuriabrava and Sant Martí d’Empúries. The sandy beach is wide open and, as well as regular holiday makers, popular with both wind and kite surfers. It is so renowned for water sports that it is sometimes included on the competition calendar.

The town itself lies in an agricultural area on the banks of the River Fluvià, which are ideal for taking a stroll or cycling. It’s also close to the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà, a protected area of marshland home to all sorts of flora and fauna. It makes great morning out to go bird watching.

The hotels

The hotels in Sant Pere vary between renovated farmhouses dating back as far as the 17th century and purpose built hotels from the end of the last century. They are a bit of an odd mix, but mostly receive good ratings from guests. And while some of the accommodation is rather limited, it may be all you need to enjoy your holiday.

Hotel Can Ceret

*** Carrer Del Mar, 1

This 3-star hotel is just fifty metres from the Fluvià and half an hour by foot from the long strip of sand that makes up the beach of Sant Pere.

From the moment you set eyes on Hotel Can Ceret it’s clear that it was once a farm house. The exterior is stone and on the inside you’ll find more stone with vaulted ceilings. And it’s furnished in keeping with that, all rustic wood and comfortable stuffed armchairs.

It’s all from a very different age, a time when things went more slowly. And that makes it a great place to relax. From the ceiling are hooks from which hams would be strung to cure and the garden is strewn with old farm implements. The hotel also has a restaurant serving Mediterranean dishes.

The 18th century farm house has standard double and twin rooms, superior rooms with a large double bed and family rooms. They are rustic yet modern with a marble en suite bathroom.

A car park is close by and the hotel accepts pets. Contact the hotel for details as there may be a supplement due.

Twin and double rooms are available and all are decorated in a comfortable rustic style. Rooms have exposed stonework and tiled floors and furniture is in keeping with the style of the farmhouse. There are also rooms in a separate chalet within the hotel grounds.

Inside Mas de Joncar guests will appreciate two lounges to relax. The downstairs lounge has a cozy open fireplace for the winter. Outside you’ll find a large terrace within well kept gardens and a pool.

Hotel El Molí

* Carretera de la Platja, 3

Hotel El Molí is on the other side of the river from Sant Pere itself, right next to a campsite. But if you’re expecting an old mill – el molí – you might be disappointed. It dates from the late 20th century.

The family run hotel is within large gardens in which you’ll find a kidney shaped pool and tennis courts. The area is well known for its agriculture so it’s probably unsurprising the area is surrounded by orchards.

Inside the décor is a bit past its prime. But the 26 rooms are comfortable – modern with rustic flourishes. Rooms have a view of the pool or garden and some have a large balcony with table and chairs.

Guests have use of a bar for drinks and snacks but there is no restaurant. The hotel does have free parking and there is no need to reserve. Just show up in your car. Pets are not accepted.

La Masia

* Carrer de Sant Sebastià, 55

La Masia is on the outskirts of the town on the main road. It’s a rather scruffy block decorated with rusted steel. The hotel is a strange mix and the name suggests a farm house but guests rate it highly with friendly helpful owners.

The hotel has comfortable modern bedrooms as well as a number of chalets next door equipped with a kitchenette. It’s a bit of a strange mix though at times, with at least one room furnished with a four poster bed.

While the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant it does provide communal cooking facilities. You can buy your ingredients locally and cook them in the kitchen. The kitchen/dining area is functional and may suit your needs but it is basic.

Mas de Mar

Camí de les Goles

Mas de Mar is a 17th century farmhouse just 200 metres from the beach. It’s next to farmland close to the river Fluvià.

Inside you’ll find largely white interiors with exposed terracotta roof tiles on the upper floor. It’s comfortably furnished and cozy with an open fireplace and in the lounge you’ll find grand piano. The grounds are open but secluded with a pool.

Rooms are equipped with a private bathroom area and some have either a lounge area or terrace. Rooms are large, comfortable and airy and tastefully decorated.  Expect lots more white with some contrast provide by coloured cushions.

Some guests find it expensive for the facilities available but the location has hard to beat for the beach. While the hotel serves breakfast you’ll need to head into town for lunch and dinner.

Pets are allowed and parking is free and doesn’t need to be pre-booked.

Hotel El Pescador

* Carrer de Sant Pere, 11

You’ll find this small hotel on a long narrow street some 100 metres from the river. The rooms are basic and quite dated but it’s well located. It takes just five minutes in the car get to the main beach, which is seven kilometers long.

Guest rooms are twin rather than double, with two single beds. If you’re planning a romantic Costa Brava getaway that’s probably not ideal. While some rooms have a balcony, all have an en suite bathroom but they are not air-conditioned.

There is free parking available to guests but pets are not accepted. It’s in a great location and guests have commented on how friendly and helpful the owner is. One of the reason this hotel seems to be marked down is because of the wifi, which seems a bit harsh.
